better late than never

My play, The Glass Menagerie, ended this weekend and my husband is ecstatic to finally have me back {the play went surprisingly really well in case you were wondering and I'm really glad I did it}. I have been in plays for the last 8-9 months straight, much to Dave's chagrin, and he made me promise to hang out with him every night for the next week. So now instead of not spending enough time together we now risk killing each other, with love of course ;)

Over the last few years we've built up a stock pile of gift cards from here and there. Does anyone else do that? We mean to use them at one time or another and just don't seem to get around to it. So we decided that during this week spent together we would spend as many of the gift cards as we can!

So if any of you contributed to said gift cards, thank you for the fun week ahead of finally using them!
Have you seen this movie? It was pretty good. I saw it probably two springs ago with my friend Hayley for a Saturday matinee. There were probably 15-20 people in the movie theatre, all of them old, minus Hayley and I. And I think it was so enjoyable to watch because we kept getting lines repeated to us by the old people. It went something like this:

"What did she say Flo?" {in a super loud old-person whisper that everyone under the age of 50 can hear}

And then the line was repeated in another super loud old-person whisper. You had to giggle every time it happened. And for us it was like seeing the movie twice - two shows for the price of one!

This show just makes me think of spring - probably because it's about Beatrix Potter, writer of the Peter Rabbit stories. This movie also totally makes me want to visit The Lake District in England - look how beautiful! It looks like Ireland or something - lush, green and wild. Someday...

{sad, sad love story though fyi - beautiful but sad}

My dear Girl Scouts of America,

I have a bone to pick with you. You're making me fat.

Please stop making these...

and please stop putting them in ice cream for heavens sake!
{which I eat every night after rehearsals... no bueno}

...and please, please, please stop making these {my downfall}.
Oh how I want to lick the screen right now.

I'm gaining weight fast and it needs to stop. Next year I'm boycotting!

{or I'll be first in line... it's a toss-up}

spring has sprung folks!

Geesh wasn't today just a typical Utah spring? It was raining this morning, snowing while the sun was shinning and then beautiful and warm at the end of the day.

Dear Spring,

Although a little inconsistent I'm still very, very happy you've finally arrived - PLEASE stay for awhile.

Love,

Someone who just can't handle the chilly temperatures

it's one of my favorite holidays

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

I love this holiday, couldn't tell you why.
Maybe it's because I'm a red head and feel akin to it somehow
{I did have one ancestor from Ireland, mostly they were Welch}.

**Did you know, most redheads in the world are in/from Scotland, not Ireland.
It's true.

I mostly fell in love with this holiday after I was married, for reasons unknown to me.
Maybe it's because I'm reminded that spring is seriously around the corner everytime this holiday rolls around. Maybe it's because green one of my favorite colors. Maybe because I love that it's a different nation's holiday but we celebrate it anyways and it makes me feel a little closer to the The Green Isle. I just don't know.

My tradition:
watching this ridiculous but wonderful 60's Disney movie

Darby O'Gill and the Little People

{And yes, that is Sean Connery in his younger years and I love him in it.}

and more pictures from down south.

do i take too many pictures where i'm puckering for the camera? yeah probably.

i love this guy and his parrot. and his sign. 'ice cream yous cream.'

and you gotta love this muchacho. he rules his carriage world.

me and my sweet tooth...

I love sweet things.
This is a little dish I had for breakfast in Mexico, can you tell what's smothered all over it? Yup, chocolate. That's the way they do it in Mexico I guess.
And it was de-licious.
I was pretty proud of myself today when I picked up the yellow 'Spring' Oreos on sale at Wal-Mart and then later put them down.
{only after I saw that 2 cookies were 160 calories - oh.my.word}

Resist, resist, resist.

presenting the funniest man alive.....

Last night Dave and I went to see this man and laughed our faces off!
LOVE Brian Regan.
Seriously my face hurt from laughing so much. We decided that we should go see Brian Regan now for the rest of our lives.... he's that good.
{Dave may or may not have recorded some of it on his iPhone...}

Here's a sampling of some of his awesomeness:

"I have to lay off dairy though. That's what my doctor threw in. As I was leaving his office, "Oh, and uh, leave off dairy." What kind of blanket sweep is that? "And no more happiness! Away with you!""

" I would have been a lot better off if I’d studied more when I was growing up, y’know. But you know where it all went wrong was the day they started the spelling bee. Because up until that day I was an idiot, but nobody else knew."

"We needed a refrigerator for our new place and I've never bought a refrigerator my whole life. I went into the appliance store, there's like 900 of 'em lined up, there's a salesman there. What's this guy supposed to say about refrigerators? "Well you got this refrigerator here, this keeps all your food cold for 600...You've got this refrigerator, this keeps all your food cold for 800...Check this out, 1400, keeps all your food cold.""

"I feel like such a heifer. I had two bowls of Special K, 3 pieces of turkey bacon, a handful of popcorn, 5 peanut butter M&M's and like 3 pieces of licorice."
-Cher from Clueless
{one of my all-time favorites fyi}

If only I had eaten as much as Cher.... do you ever have those days where you turn around and think, "Oh. My. Hannah. What have I done?? How many calories have I really eaten today?" Ok and know when I say that that I'm not one of those calorie counting freaks, I'm not a vegetarian, or even much of a nutrition guru. At the end of last night I found myself going over in my head what I had eaten and literally felt ill. Should I list this out for you? I'm actually crazy embarrassed about this but here goes...

I started the morning out with a nutritious breakfast burrito at McDonald's, removing most of the tortilla so I didn't eat so many carbs right? 280 calories.

Then I had to get bottle of water at Top Stop and saw those little packages of powdered donuts and thought, "what the hay? I never have those, I think today is the day." 380 calories... yuuup.

For lunch I had a Jamba juice gift card so I got my favorite, the Chunky Strawberry, and decided since it was my lunch I should get the 16 oz instead of the 12. 360 calories.

Then Dave and I decided to go see Avatar. (Yup folks, finally saw it and liked it a lot. Thought the plot was weak and overused honestly, but the scenes were breathtaking and totally imaginative). Before the movie we went to Crown Burger and I had a little more than half of a cheeseburger and a little more than half of our onion rings totalling around 700 calories!!! Gosh think if I'd eaten the whole thing...

Then at the movie our wonderful friends bought popcorn and a whole bag of delicious peanut butter M&M's... I guesstimated I downed about 800 calories there - and that's an educated guess from scouring the Internet.

So GRAND TOTAL equaled over 2,500 calories... and NONE of those calories were healthy (except maybe a few in the Jamba). You'd think after our great lesson on Sunday about physical and spiritual healthiness I would know better! The worst part is how gross you feel when you've just eaten crap all day, and I'm still feeling it today!

Better luck with the rest of the week Mrs. Smith...
