little lucy mae

So before you get to thinking that I'm prego - I'm not! My sister gave birth yesterday to a cute baby girl, Lucy Mae. It was quite the adventure actually.
It started out with her having contractions all throughout the day but nothing serious. Around 5 p.m., amidst quicker and more painful contractions, my genius sister decided to ordered her favorite dinner at Rumbi and sent her husband Steve out to get it. Of course while he was gone the contractions got really painful and super close together so as soon as Steve got home she rushed him out the door and straight to the hospital. They live all the way up in the hills in Suncrest (above Draper) and so a quick trip to the hospital is no easy feat. On the way down the contractions got much worse and about halfway there Em's water broke. Their other daughter, Naomi, was with them crying her eyes out because her mom was screaming in pain. Steve turned into Mr. Incredible, zooming down Bangerter Hwy at 100 mph, weaving in and out of traffic, crossing over medians, and honking at everyone to get out of the way! (all in rush hour traffic too - go Steve!) They even called 911 afraid that they might have to have the baby on the side of the road. 911 told them to just keep going if they could make it. When they got to the ER the doctors rushed out and got Emily on a stretcher, she pushed about two times and the little Lucy Mae popped into the world. What a way to come! Just was like the movies.
Congrats Em and Steve!

What Happened??!

Seriously, what happened to our blog? I leave it ungaurded for a month and a half.... and look what happens. I find posts about bees, some scarlet pimp guy, and a picture of the Edward-that-should-have-been! Kirsten, dearest, we need some balance on this site. I love you, but think of others out there. You are scaring away all our male friends! I'm sorry but I just have to man this site up a bit:

Ah, there. A picture of Jack Bauer dodging death and holding a gun. Improvements already. But still the site is missing something....

There we go...a little D-Will ACTION! Now to add the finishing touches. (If this were the Edward, I definitely would not have been bored watching that vampire show.)

I feel better already. Don't you guys?

the secret life of bees

Just finished reading this book this weekend and really enjoyed it, except that it made me really want to eat anything with honey in it and I don't even like honey! Has anyone seen the movie? I've heard mixed reviews. And it's no where to be found at my dear Redbox at the Maverick!

"...some things don't matter much. Like the color of a house. How big is that in the overall scheme of life? But lifting a person's heart--now, that matters. The whole problem with people is...they know what matters, but they don't choose it...The hardest thing on earth is choosing what matters." — Sue Monk Kidd (The Secret Life of Bees)

london calling...

Most people who know me know what a complete nerd I am. I love Star Trek, X-Men, Underworld, and Twilight to name a few, but I adore the Harry Potter series. So needless to say I'm very excited for the latest movie that is finally coming out this week! So for the very first time I've joined the hordes of people calling up radio stations to get tickets to stuff. I have been calling the radio station non-stop to win premier tickets for tonight, I even bribed my co-workers (yes, my bishop/boss too) to help me. All for naught so far... has anybody ever won anything on the radio?? I swear it's rigged.

We borrowed the Smith's cabin over the fourth of July for a Briggs family reunion! We all had a fabulous time four wheeling, hiking, playing games and setting off a few small (illegal) fireworks. Thanks for the wonderful time family! We have the best family in the world :D

lost kitten

So yesterday I was unloading groceries from my car and I heard the tinniest mew. I started calling "kitty! kitty!" and the mewing got louder. I found a little kitten in the car next to ours inside the tire hub trying to stay warm. She is so adorable! Unfortunately our cat Lola didn't think she was... and the kitty didn't like our dog Sophie at all! We fed her a little milk and then asked a bunch of neighbors if this was their cat or if they knew anyone who had just had kittens but to no avail.
She's the same size as the picture of the kitten above but she is all grey with white around the eyes (I forgot to take a picture!). So I called Petco and found a girl who takes in stray kittens and finds a home for them. The kitten is about six weeks old, super sweet, and hungry! Call me if you know who the cat belongs to or if you want her. I have one week to find who she belongs to or find someone to take her before this girl will find another home for her (it is a 'her' in case you were wondering). Help me find her a home!
